The Circles of Friends from 16 countries

A riotous splash of colour in the EQA gallery at FOQ 2010!
Squares were chosen as the theme for the EQA exhibition at FOQ 2010 (40 cm or 15.75"). The quilts should be worked in one main colour with up to 10% of another colour of the quilters' choice. Nine colours were chosen: blue, purple, green, red, grey, brown, turquoise, yellow and orange, plus black and white as the colours of the EQA. Each country made nine squares, hanging together as a ninepatch.

Celebrations

In 2009 the EQA celebrated its 20th anniversary and for this reason, there was a dedicated gallery at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham where a “special birthday card” was sent from each country. Under the theme of “Celebrations” every country sent a composition of 10 banners (15 cm wide x 150 cm long), together creating a greetings card of 150 x 150 cm. more

The Suitcase Collections

A Suitcase Collection is made up of small quilts made by guild members from the EQA member countries. Each International Representative took her country's quilts to the EQA's annual meeting, where they were then divided into mixed sets. Each International Representative took one Collection back to her own country, usually in a suitcase! They went on tour there before being swapped the following year for another set from another country. more
